TALKING MUSIC - a constellation of two people deejaying together. The two individuals play every other track and thus two different genres of music are forced to meet. Hopefully the action of deejaying in pairs can be viewed as a form of communication, a dialogue between two people where new connections take place.

I want to dedicate my available 24 hours to a project where the relationship between two people becomes a metaphor for the fusion of different music genres.

There will be a constellation of two people deejaying together at the same time. It might be lovers, good friends or an entirely new aquaintance. The couple do not have to be professional djs but rather people with a particular interest in music. They will each play every other track and thus two different genres are forced to be mixed. I want to invite two or more people to participate in this event continuing through the evening and night. Especially encouraged are couples where each individual have a different taste or background in music, i.e. COUNTRY meets PUNK, OPERA meets GOTH, TURKISH JAZZ meets BRIT POP, BIRD SONGS meets SCIENCE FICTION SOUNDTRACKS.

Music genres often involves a particular expression of style, but the content can often be similar or visa versa, the dresscode of a certain music crowd might look alike, but the message is different. In the Aerosmith-Run DMC collaboration, Walk this way, 1986, the musicvideo depicts how the artists literally break down walls letting their different music merge together. Hopefully the action of this deejaying in pairs can be viewed as a form of communication, a dialogue between two people where a reediting of historical and ideological narratives and new connections take place. The relationship between the two people will reflect the relationship between the different music genres.

The dj pairs will constitute the main piece and thus inhabit a central place in the gallery space. In addition I will also include other works relating to the theme such as a series of lp covers or other types of images with images displaying couples or two people. Playing with it being good feng shui to hang pictures on the wall of two people rather than pictures featuring individuals. The exhibition could be seen as a portray of a relationship based on love, friendship or an entirely new relationship that through music intends to meet each other. On the other side, it is an experiment that deals with the transformation and evolution of music genres. I am interested in the meetingpoints between different sort of music creating a hybrid.
